BornConfused

What a decadent thrill to have the opportunity to read Born Confused again! Dimple Lala is an Indian-American and she is confused. Indian at home and American everywhere else, Dimple uses her camera to help figure out her confusing world. Tanuja Desai Hidier, who lavishes the reader with beautiful imagery, expertly picks us up and drops us into Dimple Lala’s world, a world of bindis, samosas and arranged marriages, a world where a person’s sexuality and gender identity are not always as it seems, a world where ABCD (American Born Confused Desi) makes sense. A lush and mouth-watering coming of age story, Ms Hidier leaves the reader with thought provoking questions about race, sexuality and identity. Luckily for all of us Bombay Blues a sequel to Born Confused will be out August 26, 2014. I for one am eagerly waiting the upcoming trip to Bombay.
